Lead Investigators Log

2009/17/04

Our team comes out to an investigation with a skeptical view regarding hauntings. This makes evidence plausible in real terms when showing what you have found or not found to a skeptical person.

We choose to use up-to-date equipment to help us achieve a logical conclusion at the end of an investigation. Many times claims can be de-bunked by natural
phenomenon and random occurrences. Such was not entirely the case at the old Kerrobert Court House.

As my team found on many moments during the twelve and a half hours we spent in the building that everyone of us had personal experiences that we could not explain.

Strangely enough many of these personal experiences by my investigators corroborated past claims by people that had spent time in the building.

At one point myself and two other investigators heard what sounded like music. Myself and another investigator Yancey heard this as a humming sound which seemed close by yet distant. Another investigator Chad heard this as the sound of an old gramophone. This is what he compared the sound too.

This apparently was one of the claims of former cleaning staff that refused to clean the building after hours.

Phantom footsteps were heard on the top floor when I was giving a briefing about the direction of the investigation for the evening. We were the only five people in the building. I raced up the stairs to find nothing, naturally.

Two of us had seen what looked like shadow people peeking around door frames at us.

These were all personal experiences and cannot be claimed as evidence as we had not captured any of these sounds and sightings on any type of
recording equipment.

They end up as more stories to add to the large body of stories that are inlaid in the brickwork of this historic beautiful building.

We did upon evidence review over the next week catch some very curious evidence. We captured some very interesting evp's (electronic voice phenomenon) that indicated the presence of an intelligent haunting. Some very curious photos as well as some interesting video caught on our DVR (digital video recorder) system.

History of the Kerrobert Courthouse-

Constructed in 1920, the Court House is a focal point in the community. Designed by the Provincial Architect Maurice W. Sharon and built by Wilson and Wilson of Regina at a cost of $145,750.00; this imposing brick and Tyndall stone building was the seat of the Kerrobert Judicial District. The building with its beautiful historic park surroundings is now the home of the Town of Kerrobert Municipal offices as well as legal, accounting and other professional services in the town.

There are rumours that the Court House is haunted. People have heard whispering voices, in otherwise empty rooms, and footsteps ascending the main stairway and walking through the Court Room in the early hours of the morning. Some say the ghost has something to do with an old skull which was locked in the basement Evidence Room – it dates back to a 1931 murder trial which was defended by John G. Diefenbaker, a future Prime Minister of Canada (1957 – 1963) compliments of Town of Kerrobert Homepage and Lazy Owl @ Prairie Specters

This picture was captured by an infra-red camera set in motion detection mode. The camera takes a series of three photographs in burst back to back with 144 infra-red LEDS. The image looks strangely darkened for being an empty room. This camera was placed in the old sheriff’s quarters in the basement at the far end of the courthouse. Just keep in mind these photos were taken in complete darkness.

This second picture in the sequence shows a shadow in the empty room that seems to be against the wall. Notice that it does not block the light across the doorframe and is transparent overtops of the Kerrobert sign! For a shadow to be present there needs to be something in front of the light source to cast a shadow and block light. Oddly enough there is nothing in front of the cameras LED's to cast a shadow.

This is the third and final picture in the burst of photos by the camera. Notice the brightness of the room?
On all three photos the temperature of the room is recorded as well as the time and date stamped.

Kerrobert Court House Investigation 2

2009/30/05

May 30 -31 2009
Start time-Approximately 19:00 hrs    End time - 05:00 hrs

Lead Investigators Notes;

We began our second investigation into the claims of paranormal activity at the Kerrobert Court House much like our last Investigation.

There is always the initial setup of cameras for our DVR system.  This time we hooked up 6 static night vision cameras in various locations around the building.
We set two of our cameras in the same locations as the previous investigation. The other four cameras were positioned in new areas around the building where most of my investigators had personal experiences but no corroberative evidence on video, etc...

From the moment our cameras were connected and the DVR was free view, the activity in the building started. I made the call to start recording video knowing ahead of time that this would add an extra 18 hours of video review.

Within ten minutes of recording we had caught something block the sunlight crossing the hallway from the door opening (formerly the women's jail cells) at the end of the basement hallway. I went down to the basement to investigate keeping in mind that all of my investigators were accounted for and there should be no one in the basement. I sent two investigators, Dawn and Misty to try and block the light from the window by passing the outside to try and de-bunk this quickly.
After they had passed by the window a few times and we could achieve an effect even close to what we had seen.
This is not to mention the wax paper taped up over the bottom pane of glass and the top pane was painted. This unexplained shadow was also corroberated on another night vsion camera across the hallway from the door to the women's jail cell.

On evidence review later on the 31st of May we had seen that what occurred could not be explained. This event occurred not only once but three times while we were recording. After not being able to dismiss what had happened I decided to close the door to the women's jail cells and close off the sunlight across the hallway. This darkened up the area.
I then left the basement and went upstairs only to catch on the DVR system a shadow block out the infrared light from the night vision camera which was reflecting on a door frame to the sheriffs quarters, next to the women's cells. There was no form or shape to the shadow. It apparently had mass to be able to block out the light.

We had also caught a strange orb that was softball size in the courtroom that takes an odd path 20 feet over to the accused stand at the center of the courtroom. It makes a 180 degree turn above the chair seat and then moves back toward the camera. It then loops and fades in to floor. The interesting part is this also occurs in daylight. The orb is self-illuminated and remains so even passing through sunlight.

Various other personal experiences were felt and witnessed throughout the evening into early morning.

We left feeling once again that the old courthouse has a lot of activity and what ever is there enjoys playing the company and a good game of cat and mouse.

Kerrobert Library Investigation

2009/07/04

We were given an exclusive opportunity by the mayor and town aministrator to investigate the historic Kerrobert Library back in july of this year.

The claims of activity were dis-embodied foot steps, unexplained voices and chairs moving in the library area on the main floor.

The building has changed many times over its near 100 years as a fixture of the town. Once a Canadian Bank of Commerce; a Post Office; now a Library. The building was originally constructed in 1911.

On July 4th, 2009 we arrived at the Kerrobert Library around 4:30 pm and met with two of our associate members, Dawn and Misty.

We began our pre- investigation walk searching out the building for safety and structural integrity. Investigators Chad and Yancey began equipment setup with a new investigator in training Dave. We had our cameras up and running by 5:15 pm and began recording on our DVR system.

We waited approximately 30 minutes and then started into our base EMF sweeps and found abnormally high levels of emf being emitted from ungrounded copper pipes. We kept this in mind as night came.

With the power to the building cut we split into groups and began to investigate the levels of the building.

The basement was investigated by Yancey and Dave.

I investigated the library on the main floor.

Dawn and Misty investigated the upstairs suite and attic.

Chad sat vigil at the DVR system.

After many attempts to stir up some activity with EVP sessions, trigger objects etc. we found that we had virtually no personal experiences ( strange ones that could be explained by natural phenomenon).

We switched up the groups and attempted different techniques. This ended with the same result.

We ended our investigation officially at midnight. We could walk away from this investigation with a conclusion that there is no haunting or for that matter, no paranormal activity at this location.

What we did walk away with was the ability to dismiss the claims about this building.

We came to logical conclusions that fell into the natural world. They are listed here:

1) Asbestos wraps on the drain pipes in the basement that need to be removed for health reasons. Asbestos is a well known cancer causing substance that was used widely for its ability to withstand high heat and fire resistance. The presence of asbestos in the insulation in the attic was also found. This was mentioned by two of my investigators Yancey and Dave that have experience with asbestos in structural buildings and residences.

2) High emf coming through the basement floor from a galvanized water line that was not properly grounded. These readings were hovering around 10 milligaus at 3 feet above the main floor. We could track the emf all the way along the copper pipe including where it took 90 degree turns.  The readings that were picked up in the basement along the copper piping was in excess of 116 milligaus.

3) We found a 30 inch crack in the cast iron sewer line coming the main floor bathroom. Each time the toilet was flushed waste and sewage water would run into the basement. This area was filling up with sewer gas.

4) Black mold was on the field stone foundation walls in one of the old document lockers in the basement. Black mold can cause respiratory problems and headaches.

We called to speak with the town administrator and mentioned what we had come up with. There is nothing paranormal at the site. There are however some serious problems with the building that need to be addressed.  The evidence on video was sent with a report of our findings.

We last heard that these issues were being repaired and dealt with because the building is a heritage site.

This was an investigation that was based on logical manmade explanations.

Lead Investigators Log

2009/ 23-24/10

On October 23 and 24 of 2009 we conducted our third Investigation of the Kerrobert CourtHouse. We were teamed with the S.P.P.R.C. ( Saskatchewan Provincial Paranormal Research Center) and Author Jo-Anne Christensen.
We began recording DVR Video at 6:30 pm on the evening of October 23rd.
We started out with emf sweeps of the building to establish if the base readings had changed from previous investigations and found nothing was out of the ordinary and nothing to document.
We split into groups and began investigating the upper floor where the courtroom is situated as well as the basement.
On a few occcasions during the evening we audibly heard voices that on later review we had caught on our audio recorders during EVP sessions.
There were a few personal experiences had by investigators over the course of that evening. Cold spots, audible voices and independant shadows seen.
We searched into the possbile sources of these occurences but came up empty handed.
Audio recorders that were left in rooms where there were no investigators picked up sounds that resembled footsteps and what sounded similar to bedsprings creaking ( there was an old bed in the area). Some bizare photos were observed on our still cameras and documented. On evidence review a couple of strange video clips were captured. The night was active and a lot of evidence was captured for further review.
The second night of the investigation was somewhat uneventful although a couple of EVP sounds and voices were captured on audio recorders.

Overall we were once again the level of strange activity set us back searching for answers.
